STELLA M. PILAT (nee Plis) born February 24, 1927 in Auburn, NY, died in Brecksville, OH, Thursday, October 5, 2017, on the feast day of St. Maria Faustyna Kowalska, Polish nun & mystic for God's loving message of Divine Mercy.

Dearly loved mother of Peter (Patricia), Mary, Stella, David (Gene), Paul (Cathy) and Cathy Katrenich (Tom); loving grandmother of Elisabeth Maio (James), Matthew, Katherine, Kristin Bovee (Eric), Kimberlie Bovee (Mark), Kari, Thomas, Sara, and Catherine; great-grandmother of Evan, Katelyn, Gabriella, Julia, Brooklyn, and Charlotte; sister of Thaddeus Plis (Jane); precious "Aunt Stella" to all her Nieces & Nephews; friend to many in Auburn, Syracuse, and around the world. Proceeded in death by her loving husband Peter W. Pilat, and her parents Veronica Plis Golas (nee Koziol) and Stanley Lorenc Plis; in-laws Aniela & Stanley Pilat, Lottie Ceparski (John), and Rev. Edmund Pilat.

Lovingly, Stella raised 6 children and found joy in their accomplishments; she helped her parents, and cared for her homebound in-laws. She loved family celebrations, visiting relatives & hometown friends, Polka & line dancing, knitting, learning new things, and strawberry ice cream. Stella was a Girl Scout troop leader, Dunn&McCarthy shoe factory worker, and co-owner of a funeral luncheon catering business.

Stella was a communicant at Sacred Heart Parish, and a member of the Rosary Society, Villa Maria Club, Mother's Club, and SS Cyril & Methodius Seminary Auxiliary; and she was an alter linen caretaker. She led the "Babka Ladies", making Polish Easter bread available to parishioners for many years. Most significant to Stella, was creating & directing productions of "Polish Wedding" and "Dozynki Harvest Festival" at Sacred Heart.

Proud of her Polish heritage, Stella was an active member of Polish Falcons Auburn Nest, Syracuse Polish Home, St. Louis Society, Polish Heritage Club, & Polish National Alliance; She was Financial Secretary of PNA Lodge 2517; and a District 4/Council 44 PNA Delegate to numerous conventions. Stella translated Polish, tutored Polish immigrant youth, and was vital to international entertainment at the Inner Harbor. Stella travel to Poland with her family, and made recording of her favorite Polish Hymn, Folk Songs, and Polka Melodies.

Please join the family for a Memorial Liturgy on Sunday October 22, 2017 at 3:00p.m. at St Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church 8111 Brecksville Rd. Brecksville, OH. with a reception to follow from 4 to 6 p.m. in the New Orleans Party Center at the church.
