Janice L. Mazurkiewcz

Janice Lynn Mazurkiewcz, 72, passed away on March 13, 2026 at Holy Family Hospice. She was born in Cleveland on June 15, 1953 to the late Ted and Frances (Sokach) Mazurkiewcz. She is survived by her sister Nancy Wright (Scott) and longtime partner, Tom Zigman.

Janice was a graduate of Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve University Law School.

In her 47 years of practice, Janice represented thousands of people before hundreds of courts and tribunals. She opened her own firm in 1986 concentrating on Worker’s Compensation, Social Security and Probate. She was a skilled appellate advocate and a member of the Cuyahoga County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. She prevailed in complex litigation before the Supreme Court of Ohio and numerous federal appellate districts.

She made a point of visiting more than a quarter of Ohio’s courthouses where her amiable manner often resulted in a guided tour from a judge. Although her legal powers were impressive, she will be best remembered for her honesty, decency, compassion, professionalism and dedication to her clients. Janice was the epitome of what the best lawyers should aspire to.

Janice has lived with an open heart in every moment, totally present to each person and event she encountered. She is a true daughter of St. Francis, loving and caring for all God’s animals and plants.

The family will welcome guests from 4 – 7PM SUNDAY MARCH 22nd at the HOPKO FUNERAL HOME 6020 Broadview Rd (South of Snow Rd) Parma, Oh. Please join the family on MONDAY MARCH 23rd at 10AM to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Leo the Great Church, 4940 Broadview Road, Cleveland, Oh. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH).

Janice will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery with a private family service at a later date.
