GEORGE MARKO, age 94, passed away on Monday, December, 27, 2021. He was born in Allison, PA, on February 7, 1927 to Michael and Anna Marko, the sixth of eight children. He was the loving husband of Irene for 61 years and the father of Deborah Maureen and George Michael.

George served in U.S. Army 1945-1946, received his bachelor's degree in 1950 from Bethany College and later a Master's in Education from Western Reserve University. Met the love of his life, Irene Sichko, at St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Church in Brownsville, PA, where they were married on May 30, 1953. He taught in the South Euclid-Lyndhurst School District early in his career and was a principal in the Painesville City School District, for 34 years at Walnut Middle and Lathrop Elementary Schools. He and Irene were lifelong education advocates and participated in comparative education studies in Russia and South America through Kent State University. An avid sportsman, George lettered in baseball at Bethany College. His passion was refereeing high school and college football, and he was recognized in 2005 by the Ohio High School Athletic Association for his 50 years of outstanding service. George spent his later years in Florida where he and his son lived in the home they built. He enjoyed traveling to Quebec and British Columbia and tracing the history of Ukrainian immigration throughout North America.

George was a member of St. Joseph Byzantine Catholic Church, Cleveland, and later of St. Michael's, Fairport Harbor and St. Andrew's, Mentor-on-the-Lake. After moving to Florida, he attended All Saints Byzantine Catholic in North Fort Myers and St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic in Northport.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Devore (Richard) of Hudson, OH and Charleston, SC; son, George Michael Marko of Fort Myers, FL and Middleton, WI; granddaughter, Rebecca Edwards (Michael) and great-grandson, Caleb of Charleston, SC; twin brother, Rev. Andrew Marko of Avon Lake, OH and Port Charlotte, FL.

Preceded in death by his wife, Irene (2014); parents, Michael and Anna; and siblings, Michael Marko (Ann), John Marko (Mary), Mary Dikun (Michael), Anna Fatula (George), Alexander Marko, and Margaret Barr (Samuel).
