AMELIA E. TREMMEL (nee Nicklaus), 97, formerly of Parma, OH, passed away Jan. 2nd, 2014 at the home of Mike and Paula Akiya, Souderton, PA of complications from congestive heart failure.

Born June 9, 1916 to Michael and Rose (Long) Nicklaus in Coatesville, PA, she was a 1934 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High and a 1938 graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a RN at Mt. Alto Sanatorium in Chambersburg, PA before joining the US Army Nurse Corps during WWII. She served from 1942 - 1946 as a lieutenant with the 160th Station Hospital in Ireland and England. After the war she worked at Crile Veteran's Hospital in Parma, OH. She married Gerald K. Tremmel in April 1947. Later she worked as a nurse at Wade Park Veteran's Hospital and the Gospel Workers Home in Cleveland.

She was a member of St. Columbkille Parish and 50+ Club, and also a member of the Southwest Nurses Association.

She had a knack for making and keeping friends and she shared her love of music, plays, traveling, and spending time at the Jersey shore with all her family. She lost her husband in 1982 and was independent and remained in her home in Parma until age 94. She always made her home an open door to anyone in need and she took in a number of people over the years. She was a devoted Catholic, her motto for life was "Give to God first, and everything else will fall into place".

She is survived by her five children: Gerald Tremmel (Lastenia) of Olathe, KS, Mary Hicks (James) of Groton NY, John Tremmel of Orangeburg SC, Paula Akiya (Michael) of Souderton, PA, and Michael Tremmel (Alicia) of Norton, OH,
Ten beloved grandchildren: Edward, Nicholas, Emily & Collin Tremmel, Vanessa Rewalt, Aaron & Jordan Hicks; Rebekah Kifer, Jessica Akiya, & Kate Carp and 11 great grandchildren.
Her sister in law Dorothy Nicklaus, many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Gerald K. Tremmel, her siblings: Madeline (Albert) Shaub, Carl (Ethel) Nicklaus, Greg (Dorothy) Nicklaus, Ed (Dot Nicklaus) and Paul Nicklaus all of Lancaster, PA, as well as all of her Tremmel-side brother & sister in-laws.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday January 9th, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 6740 Broadview Rd., Parma, OH. (Please Meet at Church).Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christian Foundation for Children & Aging (Unbound), 1 Elmwood Ave., Kansas City, KS 66103 or to Lancaster Catholic High School, 650 Juliette Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601.

She was a beloved wife, dear mother & loving grandmother & will be missed by all those who knew & loved her.
